The Santa Monica Architectural Review Board is set to review plans for a proposed affordable housing complex on May 15. The development will replace a surface parking lot across the street from the Miramar Hotel at 1127-1129 2nd Street as part of a development agreement for an expansion and revamp of the hotel complex located in Santa Monica.
The five-story building at 1127-1129 2nd Streetwill feature 42 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, all of which will be priced below market rate. The plans also include a community room, central courtyard, and a small rooftop amenity space. The non-profit developer, Community Corp. of Santa Monica, has addressed previous feedback from the Board regarding the dimensions of the courtyard and exterior finishes.
While not all criticisms have been addressed, the staff report recommends approval of the project. Community Corp. has expanded its affordable housing efforts beyond Santa Monica to neighboring jurisdictions such as Culver City and Los Angeles.
